Turn a Markdown outline into a mind map

Type a list. See a map.

  • Headings, lists or indents
  • Redraws as you type
  • PNG or SVG download
  • Nothing uploaded

1.Write or paste an outline

Markdown headings (#, ##), bulleted or numbered lists, or plain lines indented with spaces or tabs. The first line becomes the centre.

Markdown or plain text. Drag it here, or choose a file.

2.The mind map

Showing the example until you write your own.

Click a topic's circle to fold its branch. Drag to pan, scroll to zoom.

Why it exists

An outline is already a tree; it is just drawn sideways and in one column. Most people think in lists because lists are fast to type, and switch to a map when they need to see how the parts relate. Those should not be two documents. Paste the outline you already have, from a notes app, a README or meeting notes, and it is drawn as a map as you type.

What it does

  • Reads Markdown headings, bulleted and numbered lists, or plain lines indented with spaces or tabs.
  • Makes the first line the centre and every level of indentation a level of branches.
  • Redraws the map a moment after you stop typing.
  • Folds and unfolds any branch with a click, and pans and zooms.
  • Downloads the map as a PNG at twice screen resolution, or as an SVG that stays sharp at any size.

What it does not do

It draws one layout from one outline, and it does not keep anything: close the tab and the map is gone. Moving topics by hand, styling them, choosing another layout, or growing a branch from a one-line prompt with AI is the work of a mind-mapping app, not of a converter.

Questions

Is my outline uploaded anywhere?
No. The Markdown is parsed and the map is drawn by code running inside the page. There is no server behind this tool.
Which Markdown does it understand?
Headings from # to ######, bulleted lists with -, * or +, numbered lists, and nesting by indentation. Inline formatting such as bold, italics, code and links is kept in the topic text. If nothing in the text is marked up, each indented line is treated as a list item.
Does the download keep my bold and italic text?
The words and the layout, yes; the inline formatting, no. The downloaded PNG and SVG draw every topic as plain text, because that is the form every image viewer and editor can open.
